New thrombosis guidelines - American College of Chest Physicians - "weak recommendation" of aspirin, primary prevention, adults >50 yrs. reduction in cancer risk & mortality; CV benefit and bleeding risk well-balanced states Dr. Per Vandvik (Gjøvik Hospital, Oslo, Norway). Pt-specific situation should dictate therapy; opinion leaders less involved than before; less-strong recommendations.

*Dabigatran recommended for AF w/ CHADS2 score of >1 & no severe renal impairment.

*Ticagrelor preferred over clopidogrel in ACS for pt in 1st yr.

European Society of Cardiology guidelines on ACS = prasugrel (Effient, Lilly) or ticagrelor (Brilinta, AstraZeneca) > clopidogrel.
