Tylenol Dose Reduction

Johnson & Johnson - 7/28/2011 => recommendation: reduction of the maximum daily dose of Extra Strength Tylenol pain reliever => reduces the risk of an accidental overdose of acetaminophen (main cause of liver failure). Fall 2011, labels on Extra Strength Tylenol packages = the max daily dose 6 pills x 500mg or 3 grams total (down from 8 pills/day or 4 grams). Next year (2012), McNeil will also reduce the maximum daily dose of Regular Strength Tylenol.

Besides Tylenol, acetaminophen is the active ingredient in prescription painkillers Percocet and Vicodin, and in some counter analgesics, including some NyQuil and Sudafed products. It is found in thousands of drugs taken for headaches, fever, sore throat and chronic pain.
